The FAQ on strike
- 1. Why are you on strike?
We are on strike in order to point out grievances in the education system at the University of Oldenburg. - 2. Is the strike directed by the AStA?
No, the strike is organised by the students. The AStA supports the strike with materials and provided help in organising the strike at the beginning. - 3. What happens in the Audimax?
The Audimax is used by several workgroups. The aim is to develop in a factual and constructive manner, enhancements of the education policy. These workgroups are not closed. It’s hoped that new members join and creative ideas and constructive proposals are made. In this regard, we wish to point to our reception centre the AG Jobbörse, which is placed in the foyer of Audimax (A14). Furthermore, workshops and the Alternative Uni take place in the foyer. All students are welcome to inform themselves and to make constructive proposals. - 4. What is the Alternative Uni?
The Alternative Uni takes place in the occupied building A14. The Alternative Uni offers lectures which never would be offered in the relevant curriculum of the university. Everyone can make proposals and lectures. Especially lecturers are invited to lecture about topics which are not part of the curriculum. - 5. For what are the plenary sessions and what is done there?
The plenary sessions are the highest decision-making body of the striking students. It is grass-roots democratic and decides the demands and the proceedings of the students. - 6. How long will the strike take?
There is no date for the end of the strike. - 7. How are my courses influenced?
All courses which should take place in A14, take place somewhere else or are cancelled. There is a workgroup “Raumplanung” which helps the lecturers to find alternative rooms. At the moment all courses are attributed alternative rooms. This offer can be used. (For large lectures no alternative rooms are available.) - 8. How many students and pupils are involved in the strike?
A couple of schools and students from all faculties are involved in the strike. An integral part of students is not ascertainable, because this is an open strike with „open space“ events. It is a continual coming and going. - 9. Who is actually striking?
There is no fixed group of striking students. Natural scientist, humanists, economics and students who do a teacher training program are involved. All different layers of students are involved.
